Forest Bear is a cottage operation that makes and delivers cookies. Incredible cookies. Forest Bear was able to deliver a little bit of joy to us the other week while my fiancee was recovering from a recent surgery. We had just had a cold snap, and had placed all of our fall decorations out. As I looked at the mouth-watering options, I knew we needed a little bit of fall to kick the season off. We ended up ordering a dozen to get us through the recovery process, split between Pumpkin Snickerdoodle, Maple Pecan Oatmeal, and Chocolate Chip Caramel Pretzel. Forest Bear is a balance of indulgence when it comes to cookies. Delicate, not too big. Full of flavor, but not overwhelming. Again, I found myself in the predicament of not knowing which cookie option I would deem as my favorite, but just for the sake of naming one, I would highly recommend the Chocolate Chip Caramel Pretzel.

More on Forest Bear in their own words.
Describe your business for me.
We are a small bakery with a focus on cookies that you can’t pick up at your local grocery store- and we deliver. Because we deliver, customers have been able to have cookies delivered to friends in the hospital, friends who have just had babies, businesses don’t have to leave for party food, or they can have cookies waiting for them when they get home. Some of my favorite deliveries are for employees stuck at work, so they message me and cookies come to the rescue.
How did you get your start?
I have been cooking and baking since I was a kid. I worked in restaurants from 1999-2015 and in that time worked in all capacities and even did cooking promos for NBC, ABC and CBS. I left restaurants after my son was born and was trying to find what my next role would be. I was talking to my mother-in-law about making some extra money, she suggested I sell my cookies. The day after creating my Facebook page, I started selling and delivering.
What has been your biggest challenge or success so far?
I have an energetic toddler at home to look after. What began as a small, “I’ll sell a few cookies here and there” venture exploded into a successful operation selling over 500 dozen cookies in a few months. It’s exciting because the food industry is what I love and it’s gratifying that people are loving what I bake.
What does a typical day look like for you?
After breakfast and cartoons with my son, I double-check the orders for the day and let my customers know about what time to expect their delivery. Then I bake, box and label and hit the road. Most of the time my son is my delivery buddy and we will do something fun together after drop-offs.
Where do you see business growing in the next few years?
I would love a store-front in the near future. I imagine selling individual items and continuing with deliveries. I would love to have baking classes for parents and kids.
What is your favorite item you sell?
It changes so often! The Chocolate Chip Caramel Pretzel was my first love and will probably always be my go-to. I’m currently loving all the new Fall flavors.
What is your favorite local vendor?
Buttnaked Candles, Turnip Patch Artisan Jams…there are really so many, but those two have been awesome to work with and beside.
